The mens second team were looking to build on their convincing win over Melton when facing off against West Mersea at Dellwood. Overnight rain and on the morning of the game meant to game was to be reduced to 35 overs a side, a sigh of relief from the older legs in the side.
Captain Michael Collins won an important toss and chose to bowl first. The team opened the bowling with Matt 'The Flash' Flecknoe and Gary 'Garrrrrrryyyy' Metzler looking to make early breakthroughs. Matt bowled an economical spell of 6 overs for 16 without any luck before being replaced by Jamie Burrows. The first wicket came through an LBW with Alistair Manhire falling to Garrrrrrrrrrry for 31. Gary followed this up bowling Luke Conway for 14. Mark Parker came onto to bowl and picked up three wickets reducing West Mersea to 132-6 off their 35 overs.
Felixstowe would have been thoroughly delighted with their efforts and would have been confident on chasing the score down. Felixstowe opened the batting with Jon Steel and Richard Brown looking to push home their advantage. An excellent innings of 50 from 60 balls including 7 fours and 1 six from the ever improving Jon Steel set Felixstowe on the way in their chase. An injury to Richard on 8 meant he had to retire injured. Finn Sheppard came in to guide the team towards victory with 21 off 42. Captain Michael Collins led the team home with Mark Parker hitting 19 and 27 runs respectively pushing Felixstowe up the table into fourth and allowing some momentum to be built.
Felixstowe will look for a third win in succession when they take on Woolpit 3's who currently sit 2 places below them in the table.
