Third team captain Jonathan Shipley won the toss at Coronation vs Ipswich and chose to bowl and hope to skittle the opposition. Many of the top order batters for Ipswich got off to good starts including Ken Jones (22), Kristian Goodwin (25), Tom Elford (20) and a good knock from Andrew Harrison (47no) allowed Ipswich to grow a good total to defend.
Felixstowe took wickets at regular intervals and had Ipswich 88-5 but unfortunately couldn't make regular inroads after that with everyone batting around Andrew Harrison whose innings deserved a fifty. A great spell of bowling with Pat Donnelly bowling 13 overs, 2-25, Jonny Jacobs 10 overs, 2-52 and 2 wickets for promising youngster Freddie Cloud who is showing great potential in mens cricket at such a young age.
Having been set 185 to win from 40 overs, Felixstowe would require a lot of partnerships and acceptance that the ball will beat the bat on a tough wicket. A solid opening partnership of 39 let Felixstowe build before Freddie Cloud was out for 7. Matt Jones added 43, Marcus Rose added 16, John Adams 6 and Jonathan Shipley added 18 but all fell without going on to make a bigger score.
On what was looking increasing unlikely of a win for the third team, Jonny Jacobs was holding out hope going past 50 and keeping Felixstowe in the game however once he fell for 55, a young bottom order lost 5 wickets for 8 runs to leave the team 19 runs short of the total. Toby Humphrey the pick of the Ipswich bowlers, bowling 9.5 overs, 5-37.
Some good individual performances from the third team and pushing closer to victories and we hope that over the coming weeks, the performances can come more regularly as a team to push further up the table.
