Felixstowe ladies second team got their season off to a great start beating last years runners up in a good game of competitive cricket. Felixstowe's captain Lisa Jones seemingly having never won a coin toss in her life once again called wrong with Felixstowe being asked to bat by Melton.
Lizzie Vincent & Lisa Jones opened the batting for Felixstowe on what was a better pitch than it perhaps looked. After a good start, Lisa was bowled by Maddie Hatch for 3 before Lucy Johnson was run out for 0. A good partnership by Lizzie Vincent and Darcy Burrows steadied the ship for the former was caught behind for 9. Some good lower order hitting by Alice Lowe (30no) and Tracy Westley (13), alongside the stand out innings by Lizzie Vincent (30no), propelled Felixstowe to a score of 120-4 off their 20 overs. Stand out bowler for Melton was Maddie Hatch who bowled great line and lengths to finish with 5 overs, 2-19.
Felixstowe opened the bowling with Darcy Burrows and Elysha George who both built early pressure with dot balls and a wicket a piece to finish with figures of 2 overs, 1-6 and 4 overs, 1-14 respectively. The early pressure built by the two opening bowlers allowed the first and second change bowlers Abby Rowdon & Anna Vincent to bowl at a time when the batters needed to find the boundaries. Riskier shots and running were required which allowed Felixstowe to capitalise with Abby Rowdon finish with figures of 3.3 overs 3-13 and Anna Vincent figures of 3 overs, 2-10. Lisa Jones picked up a wicket following a very enthusiastic LBW appeal to finish with figures of 2 overs 1-3, providing a very good start to the season as captain.
Notable innings from Melton came from Olivia Skeggs (16), Lesley Ringwood (16) and Imogen Green (17) who all provided some lofty blows in pursuit of Felixstowe's 120 but the bowling and fielding performance from Felixstowe ensured they took home the victory.
Performance of the match: Abby Rowdon
The next fixture for the ladies second team takes place this Sunday 19th May vs Bardwell ladies at Dellwood Avenue.
